Stupid Is As Stupid Does

Only 4 percent of all the containers that come into this country are inspected. That is not good.

We are using United Nations standards to secure those containers that are inspected. That is bad because even my dog knows that the United Nations only does one thing well, besides steal money, and that is refugee relief. They have no business in this at all.

So, what brilliant thing did the clowns running Home Land Security do now, as if screwing up Katrina relief was not enough? They have turned over security for six of this nation’s seaports to a company owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Just so we all understand this situation, the UAE has been implicated in the 9/11 plot and since has been sighted by the 9/11 Commission as complicit in the War on Terror. The UAE is not a country that we can easily monitor goings on in or easily get access to records. Hell, you would probably have trouble getting a copy of the phone book from there. So of course, we want to turn over already unprotected US Sea Ports to a country in the Middle East?

I know; how about we turn over US Beef Production to North Korea? How about we let Al-Qaeda run our telephone system? This whole situation just keeps getting worse.

You "wing nuts" can come pat me on the head and tell me, “It’s OK. We put classified conditions in the contract that have to be followed. Trust us; we know what we are doing." But this is one time, even you cannot blame Clinton. He was an ass-grabbing-wussy-boy for sure. And but even he did not give United States Port Security over to another country let alone one in the Middle East that is tied to terrorists. Clinton has been gone for 5 years, so tell me, who owns this colossal mistake?

I don’t usually do politics. Politics gets in the way of us fighting this War on Terror. It distracts us from doing things that will keep us safe. I do not care if Cheney shot the guys’ arm off (but hello, all you gun experts-- HE WHO PULLS THE TRIGGER OWNS WHERE THE PELLETS GO), although I got to tell ya, blaming the guy who was shot was amazing to watch, but in this War on Terror, when the politicians from either side do something so stupid as putting a company with ties to terrorists in charge of Port Security, even I get to comment.

Outstanding, just outstanding!

Col Hunt:
Besides being a stupid and dangerous idea, any administration who would even suggest letting the Arabs run our ports during this war on terror we are supposed to be running has to be politically tone deaf.

You are right: "They Just Don't Get It": Washington is still compromising our safety.
Nurse Judy

(Who blamed the guy who was shot?)

Anyway, I don't think this thing is really gonna happen. But, if NOT so, why has it been put out there for Republicans to have to disagree with it when elections are coming. Or maybe that IS why! (Way too complicated Politics if it is for a political reason)! AND to give the Democrats another chance to be on the side of our safety! There's a missing piece in this perplexing political puzzle.

And, though I would love to ponder and pull apart all the political parts, it may just be as Col. Hunt says - stupidity! It often is as simple as that! Has ME on the side of "Chuckles" S. and Hildabeast C. WoW!

I suppose if something goes wrong here it will be another 6-9 months investigation of "gosh, we didn't see that coming cause someone shredded documents, and well uhm....it was only alleged they were linked to terrorists....ugh....oops!
GRRRRRRR
Good post!

Colonel-

I know how difficult it must be to pass up an opportunity to trash the former president and the UN especially when neither had any bearing whatever on the topic of your piece.

What are the 'United Nations standards' used to 'secure those containers'? And why are they bad?

And thanks for including Bill Clinton in this most unlikely of contexts. Of course Clinton had nothing to do with any of this and your mentioning his name in the context of this odd decision by the Bush administration is absurd.

I couldn't agree more. The whole notion is assinine. I, too, wonder why it was even ever considered, much less approved by CFIUS, which is chaired by the Secretary of Treasury.

This should have died an ignominious death at the outset. To let it get this far is dangerous. We all hope someone will wake up and stop it, but there's no guarantee that anyone, including Pres. Bush, will do so. The Dept. of Homeland Security is doing its usual - asleep at the switch. That agency is the biggest joke ever perpetrated on the American public.

Does Arthur show up every time Clinton is mentioned ??

I thought Col. Hunt was kinda defending Clinton, something he does a little, - (a little too much in my opinion!) (which coulda got a good debate with me! - but I could never argue with the Col., I love that guy!)

And, Arthur, have you ever heard Col. Hunt debate LIVE with defenders of the U.N.? I have. You ain't lived 'til you hear that!
The Col. has no intent to "trash" or inappropriately uphold any President. His heart is in the heart of the military man (whatever branch you want to choose). He knows what our military can do for this world if they are given the well-deserved power. And, he knows about terrorism. So, I guess, that means he knows all that it needed to know in the world we are fighting in for the country we are fighting for. NO mere Presidential squabbles for him. He is on a plane above, and you are wanting to argue so much below.

OH!! Just heard Jimmy Carter is on the side of the UAE thing!!! Cool!!! I love to be on the OPPOSITE side of a traitor to our country!

Chris-

Since Bill Clinton has been out of office for nearly six years I am a little surprised when folks drag him out for review when they should be discussing the folks currently in power.

"Ass-grabbing-wussy-boy for sure" is a compliment? Bill Clinton has nothing to do with the topic and the Colonel throws this in. This is the 'plane above' from which you suggest the Colonel operates?

How low you set the bar.

All I wanted to know from the Colonel was what the 'UN Standards' to 'secure' cargo containers were. And why (if they exist at all) they are so awful as to set the good Colonel off against the UN in the middle of a piece about US & its own homeland security.

And I would be very surprised if the Colonel agreed with you that he himself 'knows all that is needed to know in the world for the country we are fighting for.'

If that's true he needs to get off his blog and back to DC.

More likely you need to resist the temptation to be so awe-struck.

Chris-

Jimmy Carter. 'Traitor' to our country?

Serious?

More you seem to be on the opposite side of common sense.

In my opionion it doesn't really matter what the "current" UN standards are or what the Policies are because that could change next month. What matters is who is in "Control" of enforcing or making those policies, or better yet "who" they are linked to.

Why get off the subject on which president did or didn't do his job well, let us be reminded that our Security is comprised NOW.

Yea Kim!!!!!!!
This is why I will let the Clinton and Jimmy Carter things go 'til another day.(anyone who knows me, knows it is very hard for me to do this) I will answer one thing. I must say that I was awe-struck by Col. Hunt in the early days of the war but now,(as he has said alot of things I really disagree with!) it is more just respect and honor that I give him for his honest insight and, of course, for his distinguised service to our country.

To the original subject at hand:

My gut feeling was the same as Col. Hunt's (even BEFORE he stated his)but there are two pwoplw who I just so respect and look up to for information, who disagree! Wayne Simmons (cool guy!) and Bill Gertz (amazing). Don't know what to do with that but I would need alot more convincing from Wayne!

Gen. Tommy Franks too!? God, Col. Hunt, I am getting confused!

Outstanding article...your right this can't be blamed on Clinton...would love to hear you on Micheal Saveages radio program,,,,semper fi my friend

Chris Sears...

"I must say that I was awe-struck by Col. Hunt in the early days of the war but now,(as he has said alot of things I really disagree with!) it is more just respect and honor that I give him for his honest insight and, of course, for his distinguised service to our country."

Bullsh#t... you know it's because you think he's hot...

;o)

Lisa, Oh...So, it shows huh?
Actually my "Dream Date" would be Col.David Hunt and Prof. Walter E. Williams with hours to discuss. (I don't even mind if Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Williams come along). Though, if I know the professor, his wife would be home on the roof cleaning out the gutters.

But Chris...

What about Charles?

What about our man Dr. Krauthammer?

Lisa, with Col.Hunt and Prof.Williams I think I could handle myself as far as discussion, and definitely as far as humor (both funny)

Charles, I would want to take a few courses and study before the "Dream Date". Unless he just wants to talk while I take notes!! Maybe I'd have to take you with me to that one. Very smart man.

(Smart and Funny - my 2 main requirements!)

Searsie...

Do you think Charlie could handle the two of us?

I mean, you start mixing intellect with alcohol and wooo boy... look out.

;o)

My intellect is always mixed with alcohol, which is why I am so intelligent!
With that last word,(which I always aim to have) we must now apologize to Col.Hunt for using his blog for our silly "girl-talk". Good Night!

Ah...Searsie...

Just a bit of clarification babe... it's my blog as well.

;o)

So, now the whole political and partisan thing has come to pass. Now, as for the IMPORTANT things, our President has made something happen with India. No one is talking about this! Because it is way too big and historic. That's okay, George W. Bush isn't goin for the immediate gratifacation! He has done something that will go down in history. As I always say, in eternity, it will all be sorted out.

Beware the Ides of March!!

Maybe Col.Hunt would say...
"Beware the evidence of Civil War!!!" or "Beware the continuance of Rumsfield"!

I am disappointed that Col.Hunt didn't use this day to write something of a "Shakespearian note"
He has often used "William's lines" (in his plays) as titles or inspiratiions for his columns. Cannot remember alot of Julius Caesar but this day definitely was a notable one!

Oh well, let us on to...Macbeth maybe!?

While I have the same reservations about the UAE, what about the Chinese and the Long Beach Ports. That was done about 7 years ago. Now that we are aware of these things, shuld we not void their contract?
