Welcome

  • Welcome to Two Babes and a Brain. No, you didn’t read it wrong. We are called Two Babes and a Brain. Yes TWO WOMEN ONE BRAIN. And yes, before you ask, we are ready to take all the comments and jokes that come with that. Allow us to explain. Children fry your brain cells. They suck the intelligence right out of you. They cause you to stare blankly at objects wondering how to use them to do bodily harm—usually you imagine doing bodily harm to yourself because if you do bodily harm to your children, DCYF will have to get involved and that just takes up time you don’t have because---you have children. The two women who run this blog have six children between them. Therefore, they are short on brain power. After some serious mathematical calculations they have come to the conclusion that together they have a total of ONE brain. They feel lucky to have this. Now, on to the Babe issue. To be a Babe, you don’t have to look like Carmen Electra or Katherine Zata Jones. It’s a state of mind. It’s being comfortable in your own skin. A Babe has her own opinions about issues, whether you are talking about politics, sports, education or even the War on Terror. Chris and Lisa definitely have their opinions about almost everything. That’s one reason they created Two Babes and a Brain. And when their opinions are on opposite sides, look out. Katy, bar the door and batten down the hatches cause sh#t’s gonna hit the fan. Chris and Lisa extend an invitation to you to post your comments, questions and yes, even dissenting opinions. But be warned, they love nothing better than a good juicy debate.

Biden on Partial Birth Abortion...

I don't see where Biden gets any points for this. Those who are opposed to abortion will say he doesn't go far enough and those in favor of it will say that he is eroding the Roe v. Wade decision. I like his stance because it's mine. It makes sense to me. It makes a judgment. I also think it shows that he is principled--they might not be your principles but he has some.

For those of us who aren't activists abortion is a touchy issue; it's not black and white.

My nine year old son just asked me what it is because he heard about the Supreme Court decision. He did this as we were pulling into the driveway after five hours trapped in the car. I asked him if we could talk about it another time because it was ten o'clock at night and I was done and he agreed. He hasn't come back for his answer but he will and I am left wondering what I will say.

Seems like maybe nine is too young for all of this..

A Waste of Time

In yet another grand waste of time, Congress has passed the Interstate Abortion Bill. This makes it illegal to transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion.

I, to the dismay of my Democratic friends, think parental consent is a reasonable restriction on abortion. I think if the school nurse needs my permission to give my daughter an aspirin then it is OK for a doctor to need my permission to perform surgery on her. Having said that, the Interstate Abortion Bill is political grandstanding.

Here is how I know this:

No one knows how many girls get abortions in this way, or who helps them do it. But Democrats say the policy would be dangerous to pregnant teens who have abusive or neglectful parents by discouraging other people from helping them.

"We're going to sacrifice a lot of girls' lives," said Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

and

An amendment, sponsored by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., would have encouraged the federal government to provide money for more sex education, but it failed 48-51.

and then finally this:

"How many people really think it's in the best interest of young people to be sexually active outside of marriage? Does anything positive ever come from that?" Senator Coburn asked.

This legislation is so that everyone can appeal to their base. It was a waste of time. It means nothing. It prevents less than nothing and the whole thing has left me wanting to ask Senator Coburn and every member of his family if they were virgins on their wedding night...

Not Just A Ridiculous Argument...

..But I think this is the most ridiculous argument I have ever heard in my entire life.  I make no bones about being a "pro-choice" Republican.  I'm all for the father having input..but bottom line is that it's women who have the sole burden or joy of carrying for nine months and caring for the child(ren) that we bring into this world.  No offense guys... but you have the choice of packing up and getting the hell out of Dodge anytime you so desire....

The morning after...

Hat tip to Iggert.

If you take a job it seems to me that you should be required to fulfill all of the requirements of that job. If you think that you are going to have moral or religious objections to some aspect of that job then you should find another job.

I think this is wrong.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

I've added a new category, because obviously this issue is not going away. The abortion issue, that has divided us and been responsible for some of the most divisive rhetoric ever, will continue to be an issue for quite some time. It will build in nastiness and stupidness until the Court hears whatever cases it is going to hear and decides whatever it is going to decide and then...we'll probably start all over again. What the hell is wrong with you people?
