SSG Rob stopped by the Army booth and said hi, shook hands and thank you to all the men.
He bought a t-shirt from "Life Rolls On" a non-profit organization that helps people with spinal cord injuries get on with life (some even surf) It has a tiki-guy on it. Word has it that Kelly Slater (awesome male babe, best surfer ever in the whole world here) donated a big hunk of money to our step-daughter's work. She's been working all summer teaching kids to surf at a Beach Camp here in town, and the owner of the camp, as long as she can afford it, also funds a couple of buses bringing kids in from the city who don't usually get to experience the beach. Cristina has group of kids all in her charge. Surfing, body surfing, beach games, saftey lessons too-all good stuff. She cries when they go home. Yay for Kelly! They were running out of money to keep it going this summer.

I also got a free pink bandana with their logo on it. The lady with the blue bag at the end of the video was giving out soda/beer can cozies and her card, asked me to be a guest lecturer at her design school after we talked because I did design for 11 yrs without a degree. Back in the olden days when all computers were new; screens were black and white or black and yellow! and the experienced art directors didn't know how to use a computer. LOL! It says "Dean" of the school on her business-card. Good for her! (she looked young, not even 30 yrs old yet) I might email her. Liza Jane-lecturer. How's that sound?

And SSG Rob says: He was thinking about Lee in that picture (ha!) and hope everyone is having fun, having a beer, good tunes going and emitting Co2 all over the place. The weather is great.

(I also love the clapping then the silence when he says something about Bush, and then Clinton. LOL) And I was one of those kids under my desk thinking the exact same thing. Check out his other videos too.

My thoughts and prayers go out to my friends in the UK. Please be safe. None of these acts of terror make sense to me either. You and I know, all we need to be happy human beings-all of us- is already right here, right now. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if everyone could grasp that concept?

"Did you hear about the horses that were trapped for 3 days on a tiny piece of land in wind and rain in the Netherlands? Apparently it had the nation mesmerized, watching about 100 horses huddle against the wind and having to watch 18 of them die. First firemen, then the Dutch army, tried to rescue them - both unsuccessfully. So 4 WOMEN on horseback rode out to the rescue. Here's a video of it. This is such a wonderful thing to see! "

OK...I've got pies and cakes and strudels to make....and I'm not sure what Chris is doing... probably finding new ways to lose her kids again... ;o)

Concert at My Place...

Any of you hanging in the western Carolina vecinity and any of you wanting to take a trip... Mother Vinegar is playing at my place, Spring Street Cafe, on Friday, August 18.  They are a fantastic local band whose sound is jazz mixed with rock and some bluegrass thrown in for good measure.  All of their music is original and everything about them just says success.  I feel lucky to be able to book these hotties...especially before they hit the big time and say "Spring Street Cafe whooooo".

So if you are really feeling like a road trip...come for the music...and come to see me.  If you cant make it, at least check out the boys' link and listen to a few of their songs... you may like it so much you'll want to order a CD.

Oh, I Almost Forgot...

While I was at my friend, Sharon's house, we got 10 inches of snow on Saturday night and lost power about 3 a.m.  Thank god for gas logs and gas stoves.

Anyway, we hopped on the 4x4 mule and took off to the river... I thought I'd share some pictures.
