Welcome

  • Welcome to Two Babes and a Brain. No, you didn’t read it wrong. We are called Two Babes and a Brain. Yes TWO WOMEN ONE BRAIN. And yes, before you ask, we are ready to take all the comments and jokes that come with that. Allow us to explain. Children fry your brain cells. They suck the intelligence right out of you. They cause you to stare blankly at objects wondering how to use them to do bodily harm—usually you imagine doing bodily harm to yourself because if you do bodily harm to your children, DCYF will have to get involved and that just takes up time you don’t have because---you have children. The two women who run this blog have six children between them. Therefore, they are short on brain power. After some serious mathematical calculations they have come to the conclusion that together they have a total of ONE brain. They feel lucky to have this. Now, on to the Babe issue. To be a Babe, you don’t have to look like Carmen Electra or Katherine Zata Jones. It’s a state of mind. It’s being comfortable in your own skin. A Babe has her own opinions about issues, whether you are talking about politics, sports, education or even the War on Terror. Chris and Lisa definitely have their opinions about almost everything. That’s one reason they created Two Babes and a Brain. And when their opinions are on opposite sides, look out. Katy, bar the door and batten down the hatches cause sh#t’s gonna hit the fan. Chris and Lisa extend an invitation to you to post your comments, questions and yes, even dissenting opinions. But be warned, they love nothing better than a good juicy debate.

Screw Global Warming just become Energy Independent!!!

I have been thinking about the Global Warming Debate that we been having at Two Babes. Some of us are convinced that man made Global Warming is real and some of us are convinced it is a fraud.  We could debate this issue all day and not convince the other side the wisdom of our logic. So I am writing this essay in a effort to find a way to find common ground.

Areas that both sides on the Global Warming Agree on I think are:

1. Alternative Sources of Energy would reduce the money that we send to Countries that fund terrorism.

2. New High Paying High Technology Jobs are good for America.

3. New High Technology that converts Pollution and Waste into Oil is good for America.

4. An Energy Independent America is a Stronger America.

5. We all want a Strong America.

There is a New Technology that can help us become Energy Independent, reduce the Carbon Load that Man puts in the Atmosphere, Reduce Water Pollution, Create High Paying High Technology Jobs, Reduce the Trash we put into Landfills, Reduce the Money Terrorist have to Attack America, and Improve America's Trade Balance. In other words there is a Technology that can help make America Stronger.

I first read about this Technology at Americans for Energy Independence back in  October 2005 and then at Discover Magazine I found more Information about this Technology.

Chris tells me I should find Areas that the Left and Right can come together in Agreement; Ways to find Compromises that Benefits both Sides and the Country will be Better for It.

One way help the New Non Carbon Emitting  Technologies grow and compete with Old Carbon Emitting Technologies is to place a Carbon Tax on Energy Sources that emit Carbon.  Any Energy Technology that does not add any New Carbon to the Atmosphere would be exempt from the Carbon Tax.  This should satisfy both the Left and the Right.

A Carbon Tax will Reduce Carbon Loading by Man, Reduce our Dependence on Oil from Countries that sponsor Terrorism, Improve our International Trade Balance, Reduce Pollutants like Lead and Mercury into the Atmosphere, Help Create New High Technology High Paying Jobs.  Even if Global  Warming is Crap the additional  Benefits of Replacing the Carbon Emitting Technologies with those that do not Emit Carbon have too many Benefits for America not to pursue.

If we come together as a Nation I believe we could become Energy Independent with the help of Non Carbon Emitting Technology by the year 2020.  The following article is just one part of the Puzzle.  What other pieces of the puzzle do you know?

Update

Due to Feedback from the Comments Section  "Non Carbon Emitting Technology" should be changed "No Net Increase in Surface CO2 Technology", Bad name; any suggests?

TCP - Turning Waste into Oil
October 26, 2005

For those of you concerned about energy independence, you should be apprised of a development here in the United States which has the potential to forever free us from foreign oil. The key word is “potential”.

TP for Me...

I want to make this perfectly clear--Sheryl Crow is a nut. I want everyone to know that I am pro-toilet paper...as much as it takes to get the job done. If she wants to do something to cut down on how much paper we use there are other ways. How about we stop with the junk mail? How about we plant more trees? How about we do almost anything but have someone tell me how much toilet paper I can use.

Again, make no mistake about it; this Dem is PRO-TP!

Geeze...

What I am not willing to do to save the earth...

I was reading the NY Times and stumbled across this article. Now, because of the elevated level of discourse on this blog and the fact that we here at TwoBabes are always reasonable and level-headed and respectful of each other's views, I feel comfortable posting this here knowing that the comment thread won't be gross or disgusting or ...OK if you folks aren't laughing now there is no hope for you.

Seriously, just because it is commonplace to wipe your butt with your hand in some countries does not mean that we should aspire to the practice. Sleeping with goats is commonplace in some countries too...

Making my list of things I am not willing to do to save the earth...

1. Give up toilet paper
2. Give up tampons
3. Think about reusable feminine hygiene products

Feel free to add yours in the comment section.

Oscar Night Light Bulbs

Just in case you didn't know...

Warning: a new type of light bulb requires special handling if it breaks.

Compact fluorescents are replacing the regular old light bulb. The fluorescents last longer, but they contain Mercury.

If a fluorescent bulb breaks, do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean it up. Instead, sweep it up with a broom and dust pan, use a wet paper towel to clean up the fragments then seal the broken pieces in a plastic bag. Do not pick up the pieces with your hands.

Local solid waste and recycling boards are trying to get the word out about the bulbs because they don't want people to throw them away. They want the bulbs recycled so landfills don't get a buildup of Mercury.

The U.S. EPA says it does recommend compact fluorescents because the bulbs use less energy and last longer. Officials said the small amount of Mercury, roughly the amount equal to the top of a ball point pen, is sealed in the glass tubing and does not escape during use.

Architects say households should cut down on the number of light fittings to reduce greenhouse gases rather than use energy-saving light bulbs.

The building advisory service Archicentre says conventional light bulbs are used in ovens and refrigerators as well as conventional light fittings and it will be difficult to change them all over.

We could go back to the old-fashioned idea of turning off lights as we leave rooms or just not put in as many fittings into a house.

Nowadays 4, 6 or 8 in one room.

"Many years ago you designed a house with one or two fittings only"

Mercury is a nerve toxin that affects the brain
and spinal cord, and can be dangerous when
its vapors are inhaled.

Al Gore and the Golden Icon

Just a little Inconvenient Truth to be aware of just in case Al Gore wins an Oscar tonight:

A recent Los Angeles study found that the entertainment business was the second largest polluter in the city behind the petroleum industry. From the generators that provide power on sets, to the energy used in studio office buildings, to the airplane flights to move a production around -- nearly every action has a large carbon signature.

Hollywood in response says it has "dipped into their own pocketbooks to neutralize the environmental impact of their work" by something called "off setting" and by something called "zeroing out their productions". If anybody can explain what this means and how it all works please do.

Global Warming Hits Cambodia...

OOPS...wait...how can that be?  The temperature there was the COLDEST it's been in 27 years...

Across Cambodia, residents have been engaging in a rare activity: turning off their air conditioners and stilling their fans. Some of Phnom Penh's intrepid moto drivers have even been seen zipping around the streets at night in puffy parkas.

So tell me.... between Alaska getting 42 or more inches of snow ..... California getting their huge freeze, making the prices of my produce go through the roof..... the mid-west getting record low temps....and now this in Cambodia....exactly where does all of this "warming of the globe" come into play????

Just curious....

Hold Onto Your Hats Folks...

You're not going to believe this one.  I actually agree with Al Gore on something.  I don't agree with him totally, but I agree enough.

You know my position on global warming...but I am environmentally conscious and believe there is so much we could do, especially businesses, to curb the pollution output in industry.  As a restaurant owner, I recycle everything I can and changed all "to go" containers to biodegradable materials.  Businesses need to be more aware of the crap they are dumping out everywhere... What better way of making them aware than squeezing their wallets.

Al's plan talks about alieviating the payroll tax and totally replacing it with the pollution tax.  As much as I would love to stop having to pay those taxes every two weeks, I don't think the taxation would quite equal out.  But it certainly would be worth a try.

Geeze....my head is spinning.... not sure if I can handle all of this "Al Gore" agreement.  I think I need to go back to bed.

Where's All The Hype...

Don't you find it somewhat amusing that this time last year, everyone was up in arms about all of the disasterous hurricanes we were experiencing in this country and the two words that were repeated ad nauseum, "GLOBAL WARMING", rang in your head like that that annoying song "Muscrat Love"... never leaving you... just continuing to ring over and over.... making you want to pull your teeth out one at a time.

Have you noticed anything about the hurricane season this year???

Wait... listen.... ahhhh... nothing.  Well, except for the lyrics to "Muscrat Love"...

.. sorry 'bout that.
